Before its formal establishment as a branch in early 2000, ILSI North Andean has been working on several activities in the three countries that it represents: Venezuela, Ecuador and Colombia. ILSI North Andean responds to the needs and expectations of the region, on the improvement of health as it relates to nutrition, toxicology, food safety, the environment and risk assessment and has become a leading organization in the management of projects that further scientific understanding.
This branch has managed to integrate scientist from industry, academia and government to work together on these critical publicized issues. Working on different topics of interest, such as risk assessment, micronutrient deficiency, and others, ILSI North Andean has held several important meetings.
Also, ILSI North Andean has contributed scientific information as a basis for the development of food-based dietary guidelines in the countries which it represents, and it is planning to develop a Sugars Committee.
